About the Project
The project titled “Enhancing Income Opportunities of Beneficiaries through Market Linkages and Capacity Building” is being implemented by NHPC Ltd., in consultation with IRMA, through its network partner IIRM. The initiative focuses on strengthening sustainable livelihoods for women members engaged in Eri silk production across Lakhimpur and Dhemaji, Assam.
Women beneficiaries participate in the complete value chain including silkworm rearing, cocoon production, pupa recovery, yarn spinning, natural dyeing, and weaving of finished products. The project builds income, entrepreneurship, and long-term empowerment through training, market linkages, producer groups, and a women-led Producer Company.

Ecosystem & Infrastructure Created
A complete ecosystem has been developed for the Eri silk value chain so women members can participate from rearing to finished product development.
Producer Groups
Formation of producer groups of women artisans engaged in Eri silk activities.
Rearing & Production
Establishment of silkworm rearing, cocoon production, and yarn processing systems.
Value Addition Units
Creation of units including spinning, natural dyeing, and weaving for finished products.
Producer Company
Formation of a women-owned Producer Company – SAAR ERI SILK PRODUCER COMPANY LIMITED.
Common Facility Centre
A dedicated Common Facility Centre supports improved weaving, processing, dyeing, and finishing.
Storage & Distribution
Raw material storage and distribution systems were created to ensure smooth production flow.
Common Facility Centre (CFC)
The project established a fully equipped CFC to support collective production, processing, and finishing activities.
Improved Looms
Suitable looms for better Eri silk weaving quality and productivity.
Yarn Processing
Facilities for yarn processing and natural dyeing to create higher-value products.
Storage Systems
Organized storage and distribution systems for raw materials and supplies.
Finishing Units
Post-weaving stitching and finishing units for product completion.

The initiative has transformed traditional practices into a scientific, market-oriented, and sustainable enterprise model.
